Author Guidelines

Organization of manuscript

The first page must include:

• the title,
• name(s) of author(s),
• affiliation(s),
• short running head (no more than 60 characters incl. spaces)
• and detailed address for correspondence including e-mail.

Organization of the manuscript:

1. Abstract (not exceeding one typed page);
2. Key words - max. 10;
3. Introduction;
4. Materials and methods;
5. Results;
6. Discussion;
7. Acknowledgements (if any);
8. References;
9. Tables (with legends);
10. Figures;
11. Legends to figures.

In a short communication, Results and Discussion should be written jointly. Organization of a review article is free.

In References section of article please use following citation style (exactly as it is given):

Notes:

• Items are listed numerically in the order they are cited in the text, not alphabetically.
• If you are using a typewriter and cannot use italics, then use underlining.
• Authors: use initials of first and second names with no spaces. Include up to six authors. If there are more than six, include the first three, followed by et  al. If no author is given, start with the title.
• Books: include the edition statement (ex: 3rd ed. or Rev ed.) between the title and place if it is not the first edition.
• Place: use abbreviations of states, not postal codes.
• Journals: abbreviate titles as shown in Index Medicus. If the journal does not paginate continuously through the volume, include the month (and day).
• Websites: include the name of the webpage, the name of the entire website, the full date of the page (if available), and the date you looked at it.
• The rules concerning a title within a title are not displayed here for purposes of clarity. See the printed version of the manual for details.

Technical requirements

Illustrations (line drawings and halftones) - either single or mounted in the form of plates, can be 85 mm, 125 mm, or 175 mm wide and cannot exceed the size of 175 x 250 mm. The authors are requested to plan their illustrations in such a way that the printed area is economically used. Numbers, inscriptions and abbreviations on the figures must be about 3 mm high. In case of micrographs, magnification (e.g. x 65 000) should be given in the legend. Calibration bars can also be used.

For the best quality of ilustrations please provide images in one of commonly used formats e.g. *.tiff , *.png, *.pdf (preferred resolution 300dpi).

Color illustrations can be published only at author's cost and the cost estimate will be sent to the author after submission of the manuscript.

Tables should be numbered consecutively in arabic numerals and each table must be typed on a separate page. The authors are requested to mark the places in the text, where a given table or figure should appear in print.

Legends must begin on a new page and should be as concise as necessary for a self-sufficient explanation of the illustrations. The author is obligated to cover the cost of publication of color page of the manuscript.

PDF file of each paper is supplied free of charge.

Author’s statement

The manuscript must be accompanied by the author's statement that it has not been published (or submitted to publication) elsewhere.

Ghostwritting

Ghostwriting and guest- authorship are forbidden. In case of detecting ghost written manuscripts, their actions will be taking involving both the submitting authors and the participants involved.
The corresponding author must have obtained permission from all authors for the submission of each version of the paper and for any change in authorship. Submission of a paper that has not been approved by all authors may result in immediate rejection.

Charges for manuscript publication

Please note that the cost of publication of accepted manuscript is € 270 (or 900 PLN) plus the cost of publication of colour pages (€ 250 (or 900 PLN) per one printed A4 page regardless of the number of images per one printed page).

Cover letter

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF document file format.
3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
5. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

Copyright Notice

By sending the manuscript with figures and charts the author (authors) declares (declare) it has been neither published nor submitted to the Editorial Board of any other journal (not including the abstracts 400 words or less). Moreover, it is assumed that the copyright for publishing and distribution of the submitted material (in all known now and developed in the future forms and fields of exploitation) are automatically and free-of-charge transferred to the Polish Histochemical and Cytochemical Society, under condition that those materials are accepted for publication.

The authors accept the fact, that the work will not be published anywhere and in any language without the prior written consent of the owner of the copyrights, i.e. the Polish Histochemical and Cytochemical Society.

Independently to the formerly mentioned effects, author (authors) due to release  form the responsibilities to the third parties, shall (should) attach the cover letter to the manuscript. The cover letter shall contain declaration of the author (authors) confirming formerly described facts and that all co-authors of the manuscript agree for the publication. Moreover the author (authors) confirm that they have acquaint themselves with the editorial policy in “Folia Histochemica et Cytobiologica” and they oblige to respect the policy. The reward for sending the manuscript is publication in the journal.

The written permission from the previous Polish Histochemical and Cytochemical Society for the reprint should be enclosed to the materials (pictures, photos, figures, etc.) that have been printed previously. If the data presented in case reports, figures or in the text enable identification of the persons their written consent to the publication should be enclosed.

Any potential conflict of interest will be dealt with by the local court specific to the Polish Histochemical and Cytochemical Society.

Legal relations between the Polish Histochemical and Cytochemical Society and the author(s) are in accordance with Polish law and with international conventions binding to Poland. The legal bases to acquiring the copyright are article 921 section 3 sentence 3 of the civil code in connection with article 50 of the copyright law and related law as well as the international conventions binding to Poland.
